The Continuity Report
When you join the mailing list, the website collects your email address together with the time, source page and wording through which you subscribed. It also records whether you confirmed, unsubscribed or were suppressed after a delivery failure or spam complaint.
Your email address is used to send publication news and occasional material relating to LATENCY. The lawful basis for sending these messages is your consent. Subscription confirmation provides a second step before the address becomes active.
Archive conversations
When you comment on an Archive record, the website collects your chosen display name, email address, comment, reply relationships and limited security information. Your email is used to verify your identity and is never displayed publicly. Your display name and approved comments are public.
A necessary identity cookie remembers you on the device for up to 90 days so you can reply without confirming your email every time. First comments are moderated. Later comments may appear immediately once an identity has been approved. The lawful basis for this processing is the legitimate interest in providing a safe, moderated reader conversation and protecting it from abuse.
Advance review copies
When you request an advance review copy, the website collects your name, email address and any publication, review platform, profile link or message you choose to provide. This information is used to assess the request and contact you about private reading access. It is not added to The Continuity Report unless you subscribe separately.
If access is approved, the private reader keeps your account status, access dates, acceptance of the reader terms, current chapter, reading position and limited security records. A strictly necessary sign-in cookie keeps the account open on the device. Each copy displays an individual reference watermark. These measures administer the access you requested, remember your reading position and help protect an unpublished manuscript from unauthorised distribution.
Delivery and security information
The system keeps limited technical records needed to protect the form from abuse, deliver messages and honour consent choices. Internet addresses are stored only as keyed, non-reversible hashes. SendPulse delivers the confirmation and welcome messages. Open and click tracking are not used for the initial launch.
Who processes the information
Information is stored with the website hosting and database providers and is sent through the appointed email-delivery provider. These organisations process information only to provide hosting, security and email-delivery services. Provider and transfer details will be reviewed whenever a service changes.
How long records are kept
Unconfirmed signup records are removed after 30 days. Active subscriber details are kept while the subscription remains active. When somebody unsubscribes, sending stops immediately and only the minimum consent and suppression evidence needed to honour that choice is retained. Approved Archive comments remain available as part of their public conversations unless they are removed or the commenter requests deletion. Rejected and deleted comments may be retained temporarily where needed to prevent abuse.
Review-copy requests, reader accounts, progress and access records are retained while access is being considered or provided and for a limited period afterwards for administration, manuscript security and record keeping. Declined requests and old technical records are reviewed for deletion. Retained records are reviewed periodically.
Your choices and rights
Every newsletter contains an unsubscribe link. You can also ask for access, correction or deletion of your personal information, Archive comments or review-copy account, or withdraw newsletter consent, by emailing mars@readlatency.com. Some minimal suppression or safety information may be retained so that an unsubscribe, revocation or blocking request is not accidentally reversed.
Cookies and website measurement
Google Analytics is available only when you actively allow it through the website’s consent panel. It helps measure page visits and a small number of interactions, such as newsletter requests and completion of the optional simulations. The Google tag is not loaded and no Analytics information is sent before consent.
You can change your decision at any time using “Cookie settings” in the footer. Advertising storage, advertising user data and advertising personalisation remain disabled.
Google Analytics is not loaded inside the private ARC Reading Room.
